You can’t make everybody happy, you aren’t a jar of vegan Nutella. Trying to satisfy everyone’s food desires at your wedding is a noble goal and will, I promise you, never happen. If you or some of your guests are vegetarian, vegan or have allergies, are you stuck with nibbling on crudités all day? Is there a way of catering for every diet and making it a day to remember – for all the right reasons? If you are at a menu-planning crossroads, please read on.
Wedding menu planning is no easy task. The catering is one of the biggest expenses of a wedding (and most important aspects – Ed) and it takes time to decide on what you’d like to eat and who is going to provide it for you. We are here to help, so let’s work backwards and discuss desserts, since that’s what we live for here at Borough 22.
Our doughnuts are 100% gluten free and vegan and can be presented any way you like (we are partial to a doughnut wall, a tower of doughnuts, a long display of doughnuts down the middle of the table… you want it, we can do it). We can work with you to design bespoke flavours and decorations to complement your wedding scheme. Our mini-doughnuts make perfect party favours.
Have fun planning the main courses too. There are many creative caterers in the UK who work hard to provide delicious vegetarian and free-from options for wedding receptions. A stand-out is Cashew Catering who create vibrant vegan, vegetarian and raw food menus from their kitchen in Lewes, East Sussex. Varied BBQ food, sharing plates, buffets and plated ‘posh plates’ are available for your wedding. Acclaimed Chef John Bayley has designed imaginative, colourful and healthy menus for celebrations and also takes time to recycle as much of Cashew’s material waste as possible, composting raw food waste. The Vegan Food Pimp in Brighton is one of my favourite vegan food chefs. Lynn Nicholson says that ‘cooking is love made visible’ and suggests really practical ways to incorporate vegan recipes into your wedding day menu, proving that vegan food doesn’t have to be ‘beige and bland’. For further inspiration, grab a cuppa and read about a 100% vegan wedding in France on Style Me Pretty that proves how a vegan (and any other so-called ‘restricted’ diet) can be inspiring and delicious to those who might never have tried eating in this way before. I love the use of edible flowers, something that Borough 22 can definitely incorporate into your doughnut design.
Let us know if you are planning to serve a fully vegetarian or vegan menu at your wedding. We’d love to know the reaction from your guests!
